I have rather a liking for trees – particularly ones with interesting shapes and textures.  I have drawn and painted quite a few over the years.  With it feeling rather wet and Autumnal outside, I have been revisiting reference material I took/made over the warmer days of Summer and thought that one particular tree deserved a portrait.  This is a willow which stands on The Meadows in Chester and forms part of an avenue running parallel with the River Dee.  I  saw it on a sunny day in summer and was impressed with its stature and the texture of the bark on its trunk. I decided to capture it in pastels for a change and had fun working on a large format ,
