Scottish inspiration

We had fantastic scenery on the doorstep on our two week stay in the Cairngorms National Park – and also the most wonderful sunny weather. I made sketches and took lots of photographs and plan on making plenty of Scottish-inspired paintings over the next few weeks.

To kick things off, here are two mixed media paintings inspired by a walk around Loch Morlich.  I particularly liked the contrast between the dark peaty woodland pools and the light bark of the birch trees.  The heather was in full bloom too. I couldn’t decide whether to position my birch trunk to the left or the right so painted it twice!  I still can’t decide which version I prefer.
