Forthcoming exhibitions – and a magazine appearance.

I hope the summer has gone well.  Whilst I am not looking forward to the colder weather and darker mornings I do enjoy painting Autumn light, so there are some compensations for the change in the seasons.

Welland Valley Art Society poster for Autumn Exhibition 2019

Another bonus is the chance to take part in Welland Valley Art Society’s autumn exhibition , which this year takes place between 7th and 19th October at Stamford Arts Centre.  I was very flattered to by told by those organising that one of my paintings Two Trees had been chosen for the exhibition poster, which was a lovely surprise.  Do pop along to the exhibition if you are local – indeed you are very welcome to the preview on 6th October, if you can make it.  Just get in touch if you would like an invitation.  The exhibition, which is free, will be open from 10 am to 5 pm each day, but also some evenings when events are on.  Check the Arts Centre website for information https://www.stamfordartscentre.com/

Currently I am also showing 19 paintings in the anteroom at Stamford Arts Centre in my solo exhibition which continues until the end of September.  Many thanks to those who have visited and commented so far.

September 2019 issue of Leisure Painter magazine

Aside from exhibitions,  I was delighted to be informed by the editor of Leisure Painter magazine that she had chosen one of my paintings for appearance in the September issue.  Here it is – together with a bit of information about myself and my working methods.  Needless to say, it is lovely to know that people appreciate my work – and the art materials prize has come in handy too!  The painting concerned – After the Rain – is available (framed) for £325 and you can find a better image and information about size on my website https://sarahjenningsartist.com/photo_16423868.html

As always do get in touch if you have any queries, about my paintings or otherwise.  I am frequently posting on my Facebook and Instagram pages and I also have a monthly newsletter you are welcome to sign up for here http://eepurl.com/dNxYMQ

Autumn/Winter Light and a magazine appearance

I’ve been enjoying working in series recently.  One idea seems to suggest others and it can be interesting to work on several paintings at once.  The warm low light on fields and a river near to my home was the inspiration for a recent series of 5 paintings, all in acrylic, in which I tried to push the colours in an effort to express warmth.  I hope that this comes across 🙂  Click on the thumbnails to see a larger image.

The Artist magazine article march 2019

Article in The Artist magazine (March 2019 issue)

I was delighted to be informed a few weeks ago that my mixed media painting ‘A Glimpse of St Paul’s in the February Rain’ had been selected by the editor of The Artist magazine for a small prize and a write up in the magazine.  The magazine article appears in the March issue, which is currently in the shops ,and the prize will buy me some lovely new art materials.  I can’t wait to choose!

As always, you can  find all of my available paintings on my website https://sarahjenningsartist.com/

From my website you can find links to my pages on social media (where I post most often) and you can sign up to my mailing list on my website home page  – or here! http://eepurl.com/dNxYMQ

As I am writing the sun is shining and the weather is feeling more spring-like.  I am looking forward to painting allotments and the changing landscape as the months progress.  Watch this space….

Spring and Autumn

A couple of small paintings with not very imaginative names…..!

I’ve had a bumper crop of apples this year so an Autumnal still life was not hard to set up, although I have tried to add a little more interest by adding collage too.  My little Spring painting arose from using up some paint left on the palette and was really fun to do.  It is based on my favourite bluebell wood at Rutland Water.  Both paintings are now for sale at £45 each from the mini paintings section of my website http://sarahjenningsartist.com/gallery_707298.html

This weekend I will be hanging some paintings in the anteroom at Stamford Arts Centre where they will be on show throughout November.  More to follow on this.

A refreshed website!

I am back to work after a lovely summer and feeling the usual Autumn urge to ‘get organised’.  Rather than buy myself a new pencil case (although I was tempted!) I have spent time giving my website some attention.  Not only do my giclee prints and greetings cards now appear – there’s now a fancy shopping cart and a link to Paypal so they can be bought at the click of a mouse.  Mini paintings also available to purchase this way.  Please get in touch about larger paintings to chat about prices, frames and delivery.

Talking of frames, I am now busy preparing for the Welland Valley Art Society Autumn Exhibition which takes place at Stamford Arts Centre between 1 – 13 October.  You are most welcome to the preview on Sunday 30 September 11.30am – 1.30pm if you can make it.

I’ll also be showing paintings in the Stamford Arts Centre anteroom throughout November.  Best get back to the easel!………

Black-Eyed Susans

Black-Eyed Susans (25cm x 25cm mixed media on paper)

Something cheerful on a cold, dull day.  I think the proper name for these colourful daisies is Rudbeckia, but Black-Eyed Susan somehow sounds more homely.  They certainly brightened up a dull corner of a local allotment recently  and I loved the fantastic little shed with recycled guttering on the roof.  My fondness for sheds is now starting to rival my tree obsession……!

Last of the Dahlias

Last of the Dahlias (30cm x 30cm mixed media on paper)

A week or so ago I took advantage of the Autumn sunshine and popped down to my local allotment .  I do think it’s lovely when people grow flowers as well as veg.  I gave this the mixed media treatment as a way of trying to reflect the different textures in the scene, which was a bit of fun.
