I’ll be opening up my studio to visitors this weekend and next (22/23 June 10 am – 4 pm and 29/30 June 11 am – 4.30 pm) with Rutland Open Studios https://www.rutlandopenstudios.co.uk/ and Peterborough Artists Open Studios http://paos.org.uk/ – do come if you can! Preparing this year has been rather a challenge, due in part to the extremely wet weather but mostly because we have a new puppy at home. He is adorable but of course rather time consuming!
When I have managed to find a little time this has been to create some small paintings, each measuring 6″ x 8″, in my little ‘pochade’ paint box.

Pink Geraniums (8″ h x 6″ w acrylic on board)
And popped into a frame…
The first was a small study of some pink geraniums which I was supposed to be planting out in the garden. I couldn’t resist painting them first 🙂
The second was completed during my stewarding session at the Rutland Open Studios taster exhibition which took place in Oakham between 25 May and 1 June.

First of the Bluebells (6″ h x 8″ w acrylic on board)
I am hoping to do a few more small ones as and when I get the chance. These two will be available at my open studio unless they are snapped up first from my website where they are currently for sale unframed along with some other little ones for £50 each – https://sarahjenningsartist.com/gallery_707298.html
Do keep in touch either here or through my social media channels. I would love to hear from you!
Delphiniums by the Path (12″ x 12″ acrylic on canvas board)
Sage and Soup (6″ x 8″ oil on panel)
Beanz Bouquet (10″ x 10″ mixed media on mount board)
In spite of the recent heat wave (!) I was pleased to welcome lots of visitors to my Open Studio event over the past two weekends. There are always so many activities on at this time of year and I really appreciated people taking the time to come. It was lovely to chat about my painting methods and the inspiration behind my paintings and great to sell some paintings, prints and cards too!
In between chatting to visitors I painted some small studies of subjects in my garden – the delphiniums lining the path, sage planted in a soup can and a small bunch of flowers wedged in a baked bean tin. Fun!
I am enjoying a tidy studio (for the time being) and getting back to painting. I am then off to Patchings Art Centre next weekend, where I have a painting in The Artist exhibition. More on that next time……
Bluebell Carpet (16″ x 20″ acrylic and oil on canvas board)
The bluebells at nearby Rutland Water put on a good display this year and prompted me to produce another largish (for me) painting. Creating the ‘dribbles’ was especially fun 🙂
This painting, along with others, will feature in my Open Studios event on Saturday/Sunday 23 & 24 June and Saturday/Sunday 30 June & 1 July. This is part of Rutland Open Studios – follow a trail around beautiful Rutland and Stamford and see lots of lovely artwork. What’s not to like? You can see and download the Rutland Open Studios brochure detailing participating artists and studio opening times here http://www.rutlandopenstudios.co.uk/
Please do pop in and see me at my open studio if you in the Stamford area. I’ll have cards and prints for sale as well as original paintings and I ‘d love to chat about my inspiration, how I create my paintings and the materials I use. I’ll be open between 10am and 4pm on 23, 24, 30 June and 1 July at 71 Exeter Gardens, Stamford PE9 2SA. Open by appointment at other times – just give me a call to check I’ll be in on 07887 403054
