Summer? Where’s the sun?

open studio

Summer sun at Open Studio 2018

I’ll be opening up my studio to visitors this weekend and next (22/23 June 10 am – 4 pm  and 29/30 June 11 am – 4.30 pm) with Rutland Open Studios   https://www.rutlandopenstudios.co.uk/ and Peterborough Artists Open Studios http://paos.org.uk/  – do come if you can!   Preparing this year has been rather a challenge, due in part to the extremely wet weather but mostly because we have a new puppy at home.  He is adorable but of course rather time consuming!

When I have managed to find a little time this has been to create some small paintings, each measuring 6″ x 8″,  in my little ‘pochade’ paint box.

The first was a small study of some pink geraniums which I was supposed to be planting out in the garden.  I couldn’t resist painting them first 🙂

The second was completed during my stewarding session at the Rutland Open Studios taster exhibition which took place in Oakham between 25 May and 1 June.

I am hoping to do a few more small ones as and when I get the chance.  These two will be available at my open studio unless they are snapped up first from my website where they are currently for sale unframed along with some other little ones for £50 each – https://sarahjenningsartist.com/gallery_707298.html

Do keep in touch either here or through my social media channels.  I would love to hear from you!

The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated….(apologies to Mark Twain)

I am still alive and painting.  Very many apologies for leaving it so long to post here.  Memo to self – get organised!

What have I been up to since February you might ask?  Well..

I’ve been playing around with mixed media and trying out some unusual painting formats (very long landscape and very tall portrait), which has been fun to try.

I’ve been painting some square ones too – in a slightly larger size then usual (16″ x 16″) and on canvas rather than board – and that’s been interesting (see below)

I’ve been exhibiting some allotment paintings at Rutland County Museum, a mix of landscape and abstract paintings at Stamford Arts Centre as part of the Welland Valley Art Society’s Spring Exhibition (winning a commendation along the way, which was nice :)) and I have had paintings selected for and exhibited at Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery as part of the Vivacity Open 2019 competition.  It’s been a busy time!

The Vivacity Open exhibition is still on until 26th May so if you are local do pop in and take a look.  Here are the two paintings that got in (see below).  It’s a fun, contemporary exhibition with lots of lovely artwork and sculpture on show –https://vivacity.org/heritage/visiting-the-museum/

Patchings again!

Three Palms (30cm x 30cm mixed media and collage on mount board)

I am really pleased to have one of my paintings, Three Palms, selected for exhibition in The Artist magazine exhibition at Patchings Art Centre again this year. As you may know, this is a very popular open competition which draws hundreds of entries from the UK and overseas.  It’s exciting and lovely to know that my work will be on show with some of the ‘household names’.  This is the fourth year in a row that my work has got through which feels great.  The exhibition runs from 11 July to 11 August (coinciding for the first few days with the Patchings Art Festival)  – see https://www.patchingsartcentre.co.uk/patchings-festival/

Open Studio time

I am excited to be taking part in both Rutland Open Studios and Peterborough Artists Open Studios events this year and opening up my garden studio to visitors on
